Coming from LACC George Hinshaw, brings over over 15 years of professional playing experience to the Diamonds Baseball Academy in addition to numerous stops along the scouting trails of major league baseball. His professional playing career opened with the San Diego Padres organization in 1980 where it grew into five seasons with two “recalls” to the major leagues.

The following years found him learning a new language and culture as he starred with the Chunichi Dragons of the Japanese Professional Baseball League. However, a series of mounting injuries including many years of winter baseball throughout the Carribean forced Hinshaw to take a three-year hiatus from baseball to “recharge” his baseball batteries and pursue other personal and professional interests including starting his own business in the trucking and transport industry. With his heart still firmly imbedded in baseball, Hinshaw returned to the sport he loves when he traveled to Taiwan and played for the China Times Eagles of the Chinese Professional Baseball League from 1994-to-1997. It was here that he also first tasted “front office” experience as an assistant to the General Manager and a scouting consultant.

His high school coaching career began in 1998 when he became assistant coach at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena. He then joined the staff at Lynwood High School in 1999 and coached at Lynwood through 2003.

Hinshaw, has worked with Major league baseball’s Urban youth academy from its inception in 2005. Former California Angel and now Executive Director of UYA Darrell Miller brought Hinshaw in as a staff member during the early stages of the MLB Academy’s development, George has continued his association and besides other duties is the head coach for the MLB Academy’s summer collegiate baseball team the Barons an entrant in the California Collegiate league ( CCL ) where he continues spreading his baseball knowledge to young players throughout Southern California in addition to his duties as the Cubs head coach. Despite formerly a right fielder and just for measure Hinshaw, is also a certified pitching instructor through the National Pitching Association, ( NPA ) an organization founded by former Major League pitcher Tom House, PhD, who is currently the pitching coach at the University of Southern California.

   

Tom Thobe played at Golden West College and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 38th round. Tom went on to play 10 years in the minor leagues for both the Cubs and Atlanta Braves organizations. With Atlanta he had call ups to the big leagues in both 1995 and 1996. Thobe threw a no-hitter against Bret Saberhagen in the minor leagues. Tom has been providing individualized instruction to ballplayers since 1993.
 

 

Mark Talmo comes to Diamonds Baseball Academy with experience as both a player and coach. He spent time at Golden West College, then went on to play 2nd base for the Newport Beach Storm (NBC Summer Independent) where he had an opportunity to play in professional games agains the Long Beach Strikers and Fullerton Flyers. He then played for the Southern California Heat, where he hit .312 (NBC/Western Baseball Assoc.). Mark has played for dozens of quality independent summer teams, including the California Glory and Norwalk Dodgers. Talmo played four winters (2002, 2005 - 07) in the highly competitive semi pro (Industrial/Commercial, Municipal, and Rural) ligas in Ensanada, Mexico. Talmo also played three seasons for the Los Angeles Capitals, in the Semi Professional League of Baseball (SPLB).

Mark's coaching career started in 2003 at Seabury Hall H.S. (Maui), where he instructed infielders, followed up by coaching and managing the Southern California Heat of the Western Baseball Assoc. NBC Collegiate League. From there, Mark went on to be head coach varsity at Sage Hill H.S. (Newport Beach) 2007, and the next year Varsity Asst./JV Head Coach at Newport Harbor H.S. 2008 before becoming an assistant coach under George Hinshaw at LA Community College. Mark has also had the opportunity to assist legendary scout George Genovese with the Dodger Scout team since 2007, learning from one of the greatest scouts of all time.
